Dhaka Bureau: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that BNP is a group of murderers. The country and its people are not safe in their hands. Mentioning that the people own the vote, he said that if they vote for Awami League, the people of this country will be able to continue with the status of a developing country.

He said this at a special extended meeting of the Awami League organized with leaders from all over the country at Ganobhaban on Sunday (August 6) in view of the 12th National Parliament elections. Sheikh Hasina told the present leaders that the organization should be strengthened. Mental strength, the strength of Awami League.

We have no master. The people are our masters. We are responsible to the people. Sheikh Hasina said that on February 15, 1996, Khaleda Zia played a farce in the name of elections. Not even 3-4 percent votes were cast. But he stole the votes and announced to become the Prime Minister for the second time. However, the people of Bangladesh did not accept this vote theft.

People of Bangladesh do not accept vote stealing. So on March 30, Khaleda Zia was forced to resign as a vote stealer. After that, we won the election on 12th June and formed the government. He said that in 2001, Awami League handed over power peacefully for the first time in the history of Bangladesh. Referring to the period after 1975, Sheikh Hasina said, I was prevented from coming to the country.

I was forcibly returned to the country. A case was filed against me. Khaleda Zia gave 12 cases and emergency government gave 6 cases. He said, I have not come here to do corruption. I have come to make people’s fortunes, not my own. I have come to sacrifice, not to enjoy. Pointing out that Bangladesh is moving forward, the head of government said that this development should be maintained.

While per capita income was $343 during Khaleda Zia’s tenure, we have raised it to $2,739. He also said that increasing purchasing power, increasing per capita income and improving the standard of living of people – these have been done by the Awami League government.
