Own Correspondent: Chittagong Zilla Parishad Chairman ATM Payrul Islam has announced a budget of Tk 354 crore, or 32 lakh, for the financial year 2023–24. Development expenditure has been estimated at Rs. 125 crore in the budget. This budget was presented at the monthly meeting of Zilla Parishad held on Wednesday (July 26) morning at the Chittagong Circuit House conference room. District Council Chairman ATM Payrul Islam chaired the meeting conducted by Chief Executive Officer Shabbir Iqbal.
After a detailed discussion, the proposed budget for the financial year 2023–24 was unanimously accepted in the meeting. According to a press release of the Zilla Parishad, Chairman ATM Payrul Islam said during the budget announcement that after taking charge of the Zilla Parishad in November last year, despite working with very limited manpower, we have taken various steps to increase the income of the Zilla Parishad. Income-generating projects are being undertaken by reclaiming illegally occupied land.
He said that, being the chairman of the district council, he is also in charge of the district Red Crescent. He was appalled by the massive looting of institutions and programs run by the District Red Crescent over the years. A lot of time and effort have to be given to make this institution free from corruption and geared towards the public’s welfare.
He also said that an initiative has been taken to set up a ‘Chittagong Heritage Corner’ on the 1st floor to highlight Chittagong history, heritage, and culture in the 18-story building under construction by Chittagong Zilla Parishad, and Premier University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anupam Sen convened a committee of elite, talented, and learned people. The committee met and started working through various sub-committees.
District council executive officer Md. Didarul Alam, executive engineer Mohammad Monirul Islam, and members, chairman, and executive officers of various upazilas, the mayor, and executive officers of the municipality were present in the meeting.
