Dhaka Bureau: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the government is not obstructing any political program of the BNP. Their allegations are false. No one is being detained without a crime. Legal action is being taken against those who are committing crimes, disobeying the law, and causing public suffering.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the event organized at DRU Nasrul Hamid Auditorium on the occasion of celebrating four decades of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) on Sunday (July 23). RAB Director General M Khurshid Hossain, Highway Police Chief Additional IGP AKM Shahabuddin Khan, CRAB Secretary Mamunur Rashid, DRU President Mursalin Nomani, and Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel, along with CRAB leaders, police, RAB, and BGB, were also present in the event chaired by CRAB President Mirza Mehdi Tamal.
The minister said that the government never obstructs the programs of the opposition political parties. The prime minister is not talking about political torture but about political practice all the time. The law and order forces are not obstructing the political programs, but they are showing patience in the event of fire or vandalism in the name of the program.
The Home Minister said that the BNP has suddenly joined the movement. But people have turned away from them because of their past activities. Its proof is that people voted against them in the 2008 and subsequent elections. They are sure; they know that they will not be elected in the election, and people will not vote for them in the election. That’s why they give some program every day without thinking about the suffering of the people. The Prime Minister’s statement is clear: a political party can protest. As per their party policy and manifesto, they may want to go to the people, so they are not barred.
They are doing political programs and saying that we are blocking them. They asked Sampriti for permission from us and approached the DMP Commission to say that they wanted to hold a youth rally. We have said we have no objection, but public suffering cannot be created in the name of a political agenda. Roads should not be closed, and traffic may not be disrupted. They wanted to rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, where they were given permission. How can they say that the government is not cooperating with them? Regarding the arrest of BNP leaders and activists, he said that there are warrants against all the leaders and activists who have been arrested so far. They are warranted accused in some cases.
That’s why the police are arresting them. When the minister was asked about the killing of a BNP worker in Lakshmipur, he said, From what I have come to know from talking to the intelligence forces and the local administration, there has been long-standing dissatisfaction over the authority and partnership between the two groups or individuals. The relationship between these two groups went to the point where one was killed. BNP says it is their workers. I want to make it clear to them that the deceased is not a BNP worker. The family also said that.
