Dhaka Bureau: Like last time, there will be no ‘Primary Education Completion’ or PEC, Class 8 ‘Junior Certificate (JSC)’ and equivalent exams. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has already revealed the process by which the students of class 5 will be promoted to class 6 through evaluation. And the assessment of Class VIII will be on the pattern of the school’s normal annual examination, said the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB). According to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the annual examination of 60 marks will be conducted in each subject of first to fifth grade students in government primary schools. And 40 percent marks will be added from the class test.
The students of class I to V will be assessed annually in five subjects of total 100 marks. 40 percent marks out of 100 marks and 60 marks of third term examination will be evaluated.
According to the information, students of class I to V will be evaluated on five subjects namely Bengali, English, Mathematics, Bangladesh and World Identity and Religion and Moral Education. Teachers have to conduct at least five class tests in each subject. Marks for each class exam will be 20. 40 percent of the total marks obtained in these five class examinations and 60 marks in the third term examination – a total of 100 marks will be the annual evaluation of the students. In this way, the teachers have to prepare a comprehensive report on the progress of the students. Then the school will hand over the results to the parents. However, in all the primary schools of the country, especially in the classrooms of primary schools attached to secondary schools, evaluation has been carried out in its own way.
Director of the Department of Primary Education (Inspection and Evaluation) Dr. Uttam Kumar Das said, we will decide the exam date. We are thinking of fixing the date of this exam in the first week of December.
