The Crime Desk: The water in Teesta has again crossed the limit due to the hill slope and continuous rain for several days. The Water Development Board said that 44 sluices in Teesta Barrage have been opened for water control. At 6 a.m. on Wednesday (July 5), Dalia Point of Teesta Barrage recorded a water flow of 52.18 cm. Which is flowing 10.3 cm above the danger zone.
The normal water flow of the Teesta River is 52.15 centimeters per second. An official of the Water Development Board said that the Teesta water has been increasing and decreasing since the beginning of June. Last Monday (June 19), the Teesta water crossed the limit. After that, on Tuesday (June 20), the water started to decrease and become normal, but today it has increased again.
It is known that several areas under the Teesta river in Dimla upazila, along with Kaliganj, Jharsinghesar, Khagarchar, Juar char, Banglapara, Uttara Kharibari, Baishpukur, and Jaldhaka upazila’s forest char, Bhavnchur, and Dauabagri, have been flooded. However, despite the rise in water, no major damage was reported. Meanwhile, the upazila administration has warned the locals through the village police to reduce the damage caused by the flood. Erosion has started in some rivers.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Belayet Hossain said that according to the information of the Water Development Board, it was already predicted that the water level would exceed the 24-hour water limit due to the rise of water in Domohani upstream. For this, we have warned the locals with the help of the local public representatives and village police. We are making continuous efforts to deal with the floods.
Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Asfauddaula said that the water started rising at night. 52.18 cm is flowing after crossing the cyclone at 6 a.m. The water will decrease at noon. With the help of the local administration, we have made people aware. If there is any problem anywhere, the Water Development Board is ready to deal with it.
