AK Abdul Momen said that Bangladesh has been invited by BRICS. Bangladesh may get its membership next August. Since then it is being discussed in various countries including Bangladesh, India, China. It is also being said that if Bangladesh joins the BRICS, the dominance of the US dollar will decrease.
Shamser Mobin Chowdhury said, India and China, two members of BRICS, are our development partners. Most of the remaining countries are not markets for our products. So how will the dominance of the US currency diminish here?
What will be the alternative to the dollar? He said, loan installments can be paid in ruble or yuan. Is it actually going to do that? He said, in the monetary system, the US dollar is number one and the euro is number two. So an alternative currency is unlikely to come through BRICS. However, even if there is no radical change due to BRICS, the respect of Bangladesh will increase.
When asked to know the reason for the excitement in the Indian media after Bangladesh became a member of BRICS, this diplomatic expert said that maybe India got a supporting power for Bangladesh in BRICS.
