Jamalpur Correspondent: Jamalpur Journalist Gholam Rabbani Nadeem was arrested in connection with the murder of the main accused, Union Parishad Chairman Mahmudul Alam alias Babus, and four others have been handed over to Bakshiganj Police Station. Sohel Rana, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakshiganj Police Station, said that they were handed over to the police station early on Sunday, June 18.
The OC said that the arrested will be sent to court today. A 7-day remand will be sought for each. Earlier on Saturday, three people, including Chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu, were arrested from Panchagarh and one named Rezaul from Bogra. Incidentally, last Wednesday (June 14), when he reached Pathatiya in Bakshiganj, 10 to 12 armed miscreants beat up journalist Nadeem and fled. Later, the locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex. Then he was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital for better treatment at 12:00 p.m.
As his condition is critical, he was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on Thursday morning. While undergoing treatment there, he died at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. 12 people have been arrested so far in Nadeem’s murder. Journalist Gholam Rabbani Nadeem’s wife, Monira Begum, has filed a murder case in Bakshiganj police station with the names of 22 people, including 25 unidentified people, as the main accused and UP Chairman Mahmudul as the plaintiff.
