International Desk: Bangladesh and Switzerland have signed a memorandum of understanding to increase Bangladesh’s skill training capacity for human resource development. This will increase the opportunities to export skilled manpower to Switzerland from the medical and IT sectors.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after a meeting with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Alain Berset, at the United Nations Office at the Palais des Nations in Geneva on Wednesday (June 14).
The MoU titled ‘Knowledge Sharing and Skill Development’ was signed by the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in Geneva on behalf of their respective countries. Sufiur Rahman and the Permanent Representative of Switzerland, Urg Lauber.
Later in the briefing, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen told reporters that the MoU will pave the way for skill training and knowledge exchange.
Officials of the concerned Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Switzerland has some special institutions, especially an institute in Zurich that works on technology and innovation. This institute usually works with South Asian countries.
The main aim here is to connect the specialized institutes in Bangladesh with this institute in Zurich to enhance cooperation in research and innovation.
Switzerland wants to import skilled manpower from Bangladesh, including in the medical and IT sectors. That is why skill enhancement has been added.
Switzerland will first provide skill development training under Bangladeshi institutes; later, they will bring skilled manpower.
