Dhaka Bureau: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and more than 500 post-graduate private trainee doctors are agitating to demand an increase in monthly allowance, payment of arrears, and regular payment of allowance.

Doctors started gathering in front of C Block of the University at 11 o’clock on Tuesday (June 13). Then, around 11:30, they started protesting under the BSMMU Vice Chancellor’s office building. At this time, the doctors raised various slogans for three-point demands, including a 50,000 taka allowance. They said that the monthly allowance should be increased in line with the current market price.

The doctors said that from the 2019–20 session on, it has been decided to give a monthly allowance of Rs 20,000 per month to the students of the non-residence course. Students in the 2019–20 session get that allowance regularly, but it becomes irregular from the following year. The non-resident doctors of the 2022–23 session have received only 3 months allowance out of 12 months; the remaining 9 months are due. Doctors in this course are living a dehumanized life as they are not allowed to do any other job, duty, chamber, etc. while in the course. The doctors have to spend their days with empty hands.

Meanwhile, BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. The protesters blocked the office of Sharfuddin Ahmed. It is said that the VC is staying inside the office.

At that time, when the vice chancellor tried to pacify the doctors, they announced their position if their demands were not met.
