Khulna Correspondent: The Khulna City Corporation (KCC) election results for 289 centers have been announced. Awami League candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek was elected mayor privately. According to the counting of votes, Awami League mayoral candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek got 1,54,825 votes. His closest rival, Islami Andolan Bangladesh mayoral candidate Abdul Awal, got 60,064 votes. Earlier on Monday (June 12), the polling of 31 wards in the city started at 8 a.m. Voting ends at 4 p.m.
According to the Election Commission, there are 5 lakh, 35 thousand, and 529 voters in Khulna City. Among them, there are 2 lakh, 66 thousand, and 696 women voters. A total of five people are competing for the post of mayor in the Khulna city elections.
They are Awami League’s Talukdar Abdul Khalek (boat), Jatiya Party’s Shafiqul Islam Madhu (plough), Islami Andolan Bangladesh Abdul Awal (hand fan), independent candidate SM Shafiqur Rahman Mushfiq (wall clock), and Zaker Party’s SM Sabbir Hossain (rose flower). Apart from this, 136 people are fighting for the councilor post in 31 wards, and 39 people are fighting for the councilor post in 10 reserved wards.
