Comilla Correspondent: The clash between two groups of the Awami League has turned into a battlefield in Comilla’s Chouddagram. Around 15 injuries were reported until the latest news. One of them is in critical condition. Cars and building windows were vandalized. Traffic stopped on the highway due to burning tires.
Clashes have been going on at various places since 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday (June 6) until the time of writing this report.
The clash started between the workers-supporters of the local parliament member Mojibul Haque Mujib and the former mayor Mizanur Rahman to spread their dominance. The two groups of picketers vandalized several vehicles with locally made sharp weapons, sticks, and bricks.
Local eyewitnesses said that clashes took place at different spots on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. Traffic on the highway came to a standstill when the clashes broke out. Meanwhile, additional police have been deployed along with the local Thana police to bring the situation under control. According to the emergency department of Chouddagram Health Complex, Abdul Hamid (45), son of Abdur Rashid Molla of Gomarbari area of the upazila, was sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.
On the other hand, first aid was given to police station SI Shamim (42), Samir Hossain (23) of Ramrai village, Sajjad Hossain (20) son of Abul Kalam of Gomarbari, Shahadat Hossain (25) son of Bajlur Rahman of Noapara, Shaheen (16) son of Jamal Uddin of Baidderkhil area, Enamul Haque (33) son of Sadek driver of the same area, Arafat Sani (20) son of Chhotan Majumdar of Gomarbari, Senerkhil Alakar Md. Swapan’s son Sakil (30), Paragram Abdur Rashid’s son Sajib (21), Laxmipur Alakar Sofikur Rahman’s son Monir Hosssain (37), and Nurul Islam driver’s son Hanif (33).
Incidentally, there are still sporadic chases and counter-chases. Sometimes the traffic is stopped.
