Netrakona representative: Nine-six written complaints about school money for 11 years have been received by the headmaster. Against Akkash Uddin Every year, such a complaint is lodged against him, but it is covered up in the name of an investigation for reasons unseen. This year too, there has been an investigation committee in view of the allegations of misappropriation of school funds. But the investigation is slow.
Md. Akkach Uddin is working as the head teacher of Madan Shaheed Swarnika Girls High School of Madan Upazila in Netrakona. The assistant teacher of the same school, Mohammad Sarwar Jahan, filed a written complaint with various offices, including the Netrakona District Commissioner, in the last 5 months, referring to the nine-six issues of irregularities, corruption, and money of the head teacher of the only school for women’s education in Madan Upazila of Haornach.
The District Commissioner took cognizance of the complaint and ordered the Madan Upazila Nirbahi Officer to investigate. In this regard, a three-member investigation committee headed by Upazila Secondary Education Officer Shafiqul Bari was formed on April 6. The inquiry committee was supposed to submit the report within 5 working days but has not yet done so. Like every year, will the headmaster’s irregularities and corruption be covered up in the name of an investigation? Such a question in the public mind.
It is known in writing that Md. Akkach Uddin joined Madan Shaheed Swarnika Girls High School as head teacher in 2011. Before that, he was working as a head teacher at Balli-Baghmara High School in the upazila. At that time, he was forced to quit his job due to the pressure of the locals due to various irregularities, including nine-six regarding school money. Later, Akkach Uddin joined Madan Shaheed Memorial Girls’ High School as head teacher in 2011 with a huge amount of money.
Akkach Uddin formed the managing committee with people of his choice only twice in 11 years. He has been accused of working nine-to-six with school money since joining. In view of that, in 2016, the inspector of the Ministry of Education came to investigate the income and expenditure of the school. Although the irregularities were proven, the inspector of the Ministry of Education did not take any action against the bribe from the head teacher.
Later, referring to the embezzlement of the school’s money, in 2018, the parents, along with the president of the school managing committee, Tota Mia, filed a written complaint in various departments. At that time, the investigation committee recommended departmental audit and monitoring as it found evidence of nine-six cases of money laundering. But due to invisible reasons, it is covered up. The matter came to the fore when a student filed a case against Akkach Uddin in court regarding such corruption. In view of these complaints, the inspector of the Ministry of Education came to investigate the school in January 2022. But the headmaster, Akkach Uddin, embezzled two lakh taka from the school by showing the account of bribing the inspector of the Ministry of Education.
Apart from this, the old building was sold at auction for Tk 1 lakh, 13 thousand, to construct the new building of the school. The school committee made a resolution to deposit that money in the school account at the Pubali Bank Madan branch. According to the information provided by the bank, he embezzled $13,000 from there. From the deposited money again, head teacher Akkach Uddin embezzled 30 thousand taka from the bank with a fake signature. Along with this, it is mentioned in the written complaint that he took the furniture purchased by the school to his home.
Complaining teacher Mohammad Sarwar Jahan said, “The head teacher, Akkash Uddin, is doing various irregularities, including misappropriation of school money under his own power.” Students are dropping out of schools and enrolling in other schools due to the deteriorating quality of education in schools. I strongly demand that the authorities investigate the head teacher’s money scam and take appropriate action.
Madan Shaheed Swarnika Girls High School Headmaster Md. Akkash Uddin said, “I don’t want to say anything about the complaint filed against me. A committee has been formed to investigate the complaint. Those who are investigating will tell.
The head of the investigation committee is Madan Upazila Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Officer. Shafiqul Bari said that the complaint against the head teacher, Akkash Uddin, is being investigated. As the headmaster asked for time, he was given time for the purpose of the investigation.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Shah Alam Mia said, “I have just joined Madan Upazila. I have now been informed that there has been an inquiry committee regarding the head teacher’s complaint. Appropriate action will be taken after receiving the report.
