Dhaka Bureau: The doctors of Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital have proposed to make a separate specialized children’s hospital for advanced treatment of children. They commented that if two-three children are treated in the same bed in Dhaka Medical Center and a separate hospital is made for them, the quality of medical services will improve.
The doctors said these things in a seminar organized in the meeting room of the hospital on Saturday (June 3) afternoon. State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain was the chief guest on the occasion. Former Secretary of the Health Ministry Sirajul Islam, Principal of Dhaka Medical College Dr. Md. Shafikul Alam Chowdhury, Vice Principal Professor Dr. Abdul Hanif Tablu, the president of the teachers’ association, Professor Dr. Devesh Chandra Talukder, and General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Ahmed Hossain Haroon Hospital Director Brigadier General Nazmul Haque, Dhaka University Medical Faculty Dean Dr. Shahria Nabi Shakeel, and others The seminar was organized by the Department of Pediatric Surgery, the Department of Neonatal Surgery, the Department of Pediatric Surgical Oncology, and the Department of Pediatric Urology of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The program was chaired by the head of the Department of Pediatric Surgery. Md. Ashraf ul Haque Kajal.
He said that in 1993, the journey of the pediatric surgery department started with 10 beds at Dhaka Medical College. Presently, with 87 beds, outpatient, inter-departmental emergency care, and specialty care (neonatal, pediatric oncology, pediatric urology, laparoscopy surgery, and colonoscopy) are provided. With 87 beds, 155 or more pediatric patients are admitted here every day. Over time, the number of patients increased, and the workload and specialized services also increased.
Professor Dr. Abdul Hanif Tablu said there are several times more children than beds. Even if we think about better treatment of children, there is a need to build a government-specialized children’s hospital in Dhaka. The children’s hospital in Shyamli, the capital, is under its jurisdiction. So it is very necessary to build a fully government hospital.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, the chief guest at the event, said that Dhaka Medical is the most characteristic hospital. Every day, numerous patients receive treatment here. No one is told ‘no’. All complex treatments are possible here.
The chief guest said that he will discuss with the Prime Minister the establishment of a specialized hospital for children, including all the recommendations of the doctors.
