Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina commented that Bangladesh is a reliable name in world peace and security.
He said this on Monday (May 29) on the occasion of International Day of Peacekeepers 2023, in honoring the officers and family members of soldiers who were martyred while working in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
The Prime Minister said that Bangladesh is today a reliable name in global efforts to maintain peace and security. We are recognized as role models around the world.
He said that for the last 35 years, Bangladesh has been working with great reputation as the country that sends the highest number of peacekeepers and is an active participant in UN peacekeeping operations. Even in many places where other countries did not want to send peacekeepers, we sent them. We are recognized as role models around the world.
He said that behind this achievement is the contribution and sacrifice of our armed forces and Bangladesh Police Force. We are celebrating 35 years of Bangladesh’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations. On this auspicious occasion of great pride and joy, I extend my sincere greetings and congratulations to all the peacekeepers, including the Bangladeshi peacekeepers working in the United Nations Mission.
The Prime Minister said, “I believe it is essential to establish a “culture of peace” to perpetuate the message of peace and implement Agenda 2030.”
He said the “Women’s Peace and Security Agenda” is making a significant contribution to ensuring women’s rights and gender equality. We have never had women in our armed forces before. I took the initiative. Now the role of women in our air force, police force, armed forces, and peacekeeping missions is very significant.
