Dhaka Bureau: Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate Advocate Azmat Ullah Khan exercised his right to vote in the Gazipur City Corporation elections. He cast his vote at the Tongi Darus Salam Madrasa polling station at 9 a.m.
Azmat Ullah Khan came to the polling station, surrounded by leaders and workers, to wave to the voters. At that time, his grandson, Fazle Rabbi Khan, was present with his grandfather, Azmat Ullah Khan, along with local leaders and activists. After casting his vote at 9:05 a.m., he came out smiling. At that time, he expressed his strong hope of winning the election to the media workers present. He also said that polling in the election is going on peacefully.
Azmatullah Khan said that the people did not get what they expected from the City Corporation in terms of development. Because of this, people are disappointed. The people of the area did not get what they wanted, and today they turned towards me with a chest of hope. I congratulate and thank all the honorable voters. Trusting in Allah, I can say that today’s victory will belong to the boat. The people themselves will win by voting for the boat symbol. The boat will win in Gazipur.
When asked how he saw the polling environment, Azmatullah Khan said that it was very peaceful. This election is a very free and fair one. And it is a participatory election of the people. I have shown respect for people’s judgment. Today I was with the people in all social and cultural activities, including the political activities of the elections, and I am still there. I received a lot of hope from the public during the election campaign. I had to go to 30 to 43 road meetings every day for the election campaign. Although I was supposed to leave in the afternoon, I arrived in the afternoon. But the people did not leave me; they waited for him. I got this spontaneous response from them right from the beginning of the campaign.
When asked about other candidates not having agents in many polling stations, Azmatullah Khan said, I cannot give agents to anyone. There is no bar to giving agents here. Have you received any news of blocking anywhere? If they can’t provide their own agent, then I can’t.
Responding to a question about EVMs and new voters, Azmatullah Khan said that the enthusiasm among the youth, especially among the new voters, around EVMs has made it more festive. If there is a delay in voting due to EVMs, I request that the Election Commission allow people to cast their votes if they are standing in the queue after the specified time.
