Dinajpur Correspondent: The court has sentenced Rabiul Islam to 10 years rigorous imprisonment in the case of attempted murder of Dinajpur Ghoraghat Upazila former executive officer (UNO) Wahida Khanam and her father Omar Ali Sheikh.
Judge Sadia Sultana of Dinajpur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court announced the verdict on Tuesday (November 8) morning. At that time, Rabiul Islam was present in the court.
Advocate Rabiul Islam, the lawyer of the state, confirmed the matter and said that the learned court judge sentenced the accused to 10 years and 3 years rigorous imprisonment in two separate sections. But he has to serve 10 years imprisonment. In addition, a fine of 10,000 rupees was imposed and the court gave another 6 months in jail for non-payment.
It is to be noted that on September 2, 2020, at around 2 am, Wahida and her father were seriously injured after entering the official residence of UNO with sharp weapons. On September 3, Wahida’s brother Sheikh Farid filed a case at Ghoraghat police station as the plaintiff.
On September 11, 2020, Rabiul Islam, an employee of that residence, was arrested. The police investigation revealed that the incident of attack on the UNO took place out of anger due to the dismissal of Rabiul, an employee of the UNO office for the crime of stealing money.
