It is known that despite the strong objections of Rajshahi district and metropolitan BNP leaders, on July 5, 2019, Abu Saeed Chand was given a 41-member district BNP committee from the center. After the announcement of the committee, Trinamool leaders and activists held demonstrations and protest programs demanding the cancellation of the committee.
When asked about Chand, the BNP Chairperson’s advisor, Mizanur Rahman Minu, said that Chand made a statement aimed at a person that was not a party statement of the BNP. The BNP is agitating against the government. Not against any particular person. The BNP’s nationwide anti-government movement has gained momentum. We are embarrassed by such a statement by Chand at this time. We have already expressed our regret on behalf of the team. We do not want the movement to suffer because of any particular person.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP convener Advocate Veer Muktijoddha Ershad Ali Isha has clarified that the party will not take responsibility for the speech given by Abu Saeed Chand in a BNP rally in Rajshahi’s Shivpur on May 19 that Sheikh Hasina should be sent to the grave. Claiming Chand’s controversial statement as his own, he said that Chand’s statement is in no way a party statement of the BNP. The party will not take responsibility for Chand’s statement. A case has been filed against him. The law will run at its own pace. There is no room for confusion about Chand’s statement. Central leaders are looking into the matter. Whatever you do, the center will do it. Because district or metropolitan BNP has nothing to do about it.
According to the investigation, Chand is absconding after filing a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Puthia police station on Monday. Four teams of Rajshahi District Police conducted raids at nine possible locations on Monday night to catch him. The OC of Puthia police station, Farooq Hossain, confirmed the matter and said that Chand has covered up since the filing of the case. We have continued the operation to arrest him. He said that it would be possible to arrest him soon.
Rajshahi District Court Police Inspector Parimal Kumar Chakraborty said that 18 cases against BNP leader Abu Saeed are currently pending in the court. All are running. More than 20 other cases have already been settled. Last July, Abu Saeed Chand made a speech insulting the Prime Minister on a program of the BNP. In this incident last year, on July 26, the organizing secretary of the metropolitan Awami League, W. Sarkar, filed a case against him. He was arrested in that case and was in jail for some time.
