6 people sentenced to death in Khulna school girl rape case

Khulna Correspondent: The court sentenced 6 people to death in the case of rape of a sixth class girl in Khulna. At the same time, they have been fined 20 thousand rupees. Besides, four people have been sentenced to different terms of imprisonment.

Judge Abdus Chalam Khan of Khulna Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-3 announced the verdict on Tuesday (November 8). Special PP Advocate Farid Ahmed confirmed the verdict.

The convicts sentenced to death are, Morshedul Islam Shanto alias Shanto Biswas, Sheikh Shahadat Hossain, Md. Rabbi Hasan Parash, Md. Mahmud Hasan Akash, Kazi Ariful Islam Pritam (absconding) and Md. Mim Hossain. Among them Marshedul Islam Shanto alias Shanto Biswas, Shahadat Hossain and Kazi Ariful Islam Pritam are absconding.

According to court sources, two days before the incident, Morshedul Islam Shanta, the girl of the sixth class of Sonadanga Bihari Colony area of ​​the city, met. Based on the identity, Shanto called him on June 29, 2019 around 4:30 pm on his mobile phone. After that, both of them met together in the city’s Saheb’s graveyard. From there he was taken to the rented house of the other accused in the case Nurunnabir in Bihari Colony of Sonadanga police station. Shant later raped her against her will. At this time, others present recorded the video of the rape. Later, the others raped the student by showing the recorded video and threatening her. In the evening they released him with death threats. Later he told the incident to his elder sister. After that he was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. The next day after this incident, the elder brother filed a case with the name of 9 accused in Sonadanga police station of the city.

On November 13 of the same year, the investigation officer of the case, Sonadanga Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Momtazul Haque filed a charge sheet in the court mentioning the names of 10 accused. 13 out of 30 witnesses testified in court during the trial.
