City Reporter: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will work together with the Chittagong City Corporation to improve the living standards of the poor in Chittagong. Chittagong city mayor Bir Muktijoddha decided to solve the various problems of the poor class of Chittagong in the morning on Monday (May 22). Rezaul Karim Chowdhury met with UNDP Resident Representative Stephen Liler and ADB Country Director Edimon Ginting.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Chittagong City Corporation, Sheikh Mohammad Touhidul Islam, high lighted the progress of the ongoing projects of the two organizations in Chittagong to improve the quality of life of the poor people and the other works that can be done in coordination for the development of Chittagong in the future.
Earlier, a high-level delegation of the two institutions visited Jelepara CDC of Mohra Ward No. 5 and Vijayanagar Ramar Par CDC of Ward No. 9 under the Livelihood Improvement Project (LIUPCP) under implementation in Chittagong City Corporation.
When the team reached the community, they were warmly welcomed by the local beneficiaries and briefed on their progress through the project. They highlighted the activities being implemented under the project to develop climate resilient physical infrastructure including socio-economic development programs. The team visited various activities of the project and interacted with the beneficiaries.
They expressed their happiness to see that the roads, drains, toilets, dewaters, safe water, and skill development training, education stipends, nutrition grants and income-generating business grants implemented through this project are playing a fruitful role in changing the socio-economic conditions of the poor people of the city.
