The illustrious career of cinematographer Farooq

Entertainment Desk: Veteran actor, member of parliament, and brave freedom fighter Akbar Hossain Pathan (Farooq) passed away on Sunday. He died while undergoing treatment at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital at 10 a.m. local time.

The veteran actor’s body will be brought home on an early morning flight tomorrow, Tuesday. Farooq was born on August 18, 1948, in Manikganj. He is the youngest of five sisters and two brothers.

Although his name is Akbar Hossain Pathan, he is better known as Farooq. In his illustrious life, he was involved in various socio-cultural activities besides being a film actor, producer, businessman, and politician.

Farooq made his film debut in 1971 by acting in the film ‘Jalchhabi,” directed by H. Akbar. He has acted in hundreds of films, including Lathiyal, Sujan Sakhi, Nayan Moni, Sareng Bau, Rosyna Nach Trenne, Saheb, Alor Michili, Din Jai Katha Khale, and Mia Bhai.

He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1975 for his performance in the film Lathial. In 2016, he received a lifetime award. He is recognized as one of the most successful and best heroes in the history of Bengali cinema.

A brave freedom fighter, Farooq was associated with politics from a young age. He was elected Member of Parliament from Dhaka-17 Constituency in the 11th National Parliament Elections held in 2018.
