ASP Mahmuda Begum of Khagrachari is getting Sammanna Award

Khagrachari Correspondent: Khagrachari Hill District Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahmuda Begum is receiving the ‘Sammannana Award 2023’ for her professional contribution. The International Association of Women Police (IAWP) is giving her this award. He is receiving this award in the community service category.

The award will be handed over to him at a five-day event on September 17-21 in Auckland, New Zealand. IAWP announced this in a recent tweet.

This award was given in the community service category for being able to spread the reputation of the Bangladesh Police by playing an exemplary role in improving public security, reducing crime and criminal behavior, reducing social inequality and building good relations with ordinary citizens including their own forces.

Confirming the matter, ASP Mahmuda Begum said, I have been selected for the International Association of Women Police (IAWP) recognition award in the ‘Community Service’ category. It is indeed a matter of pride, honor and prestigious recognition of work for me.

Those selected for the ‘IAWP Award 2023’ are – Additional Superintendent of Police of Bangladesh Police Mahmuda Begum in the community service category. Constable Patrizia Vettri of Bedfordshire Police in the bravery category.

Police Inspector Eve Roser of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in the Mentors and Coaching category. Ukrainian Police Major Olha Yuskevich in the Leadership category. Kenyan Police Superintendent Zippurah Nderito in the Prevention and Detection of Violence Against Women category.

Civilian of the Year Reem Al Muhairi, a civil employee of the Dubai Police. Australian Police Detective Superintendent Simon van der Sloys in the Excellence in Performance category. Sigit Pravo is the police general of the Indonesian police in the He for She category.

Since 1915, the International Association of Police Women has been working around the world to improve, strengthen, unite and increase the capacity of women police officers. Since 1956, the organization has been operating under the name International Association of Women Police (IAWP).

IAWP works around the world to protect human rights, including protecting the interests of policewomen internationally. Alice Stebbins Wells, the first female police officer in the United States to be appointed the association’s first president.

Mahmuda Begum joined the Bangladesh Police as Assistant Police Commissioner in 2010. Joined the Sylhet District Police as an apprentice at the end of training. Later served as Assistant Commissioner Sadar and Traffic in Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).

Mahmuda Begum is the first woman police officer from the Indian subcontinent to participate in SWAT training in Virginia, USA in 2013 while in the CMP. While in CMP, he went to the UN mission in 2016. He was promoted to Additional Superintendent of Police in the same year while on mission. After returning from there, he joined the Chittagong Range as Additional Superintendent of Police.

Mahmuda Begum went to Melbourne University, Australia on February 21, 2020 to study Masters in Criminology after receiving the Prime Minister’s Scholarship (PM Scholarship) given by the Government of Bangladesh for the year 2019-2020.

After studying for a year and a half, this police officer obtained a master’s degree in criminology on August 31, 2021. Then he joined Rangamati District Police as Additional Superintendent of Police. Currently serving as Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) in Khagrachari District Police.

Mahmuda Begum got an opportunity to work at the Victim Support Center while serving in the CMP. A then 11-year-old Indian child entered Bangladesh by infiltrating through the Comilla border. At that time, the child could not give any information except the name of his country, India.

Mahmuda Begum was lauded for playing a vital role in arranging for the return of the helpless Indian child to her mother in India with the help of the Victim Support Centre. Besides, he made a bold contribution in taking effective measures against formalin by regular market monitoring.

This female officer who completed her Masters in English Literature with Honors from Chittagong University and her Masters in Criminology from Melbourne University in Australia is a mother of one child in her personal life. Her husband is a journalist. Although his ancestral home is in Titas of Comilla, he was born in Chittagong due to his father’s job.
