Dhaka Bureau: The 162nd birth anniversary of world poet Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated at Dhaka University (DU) through various programs.
On this occasion, a discussion meeting and cultural program were organized in the student-teacher center auditorium on the theme of ‘Society Reform and Rabindranath’. The Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) engaged in the routine duties of the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University. Muhammad Samad presided over the meeting.
University Treasurer Professor Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed spoke as a special guest on the occasion. The main article was presented by Prof. Dr. Bangla Department. Begum Akhtar Kamal.
Dr. Muhammad Samad said Rabindranath has highlighted various issues, including social inconsistencies, superstitions, the sufferings of the people of Bengal, nature, the environment, and human love, through his poems, short stories, songs, compositions, literature, and art works.
He said Rabindranath’s Indian philosophy was very liberal. We should always highlight the thoughts and philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore in establishing a society with non-sectarian and humane values. He mentioned that we can enrich ourselves by knowing about Rabindranath’s life, philosophy, and literary works.
According to the original article, Rabindranath’s social philosophy has become a world philosophy. His best creative works are written about the rural life of then-East Bengal and the lives of the people of Padmapar. He wanted to reform society by changing people’s thinking through writing. He placed women in the highest position in social reform.
At the end of the discussion session, a wonderful cultural program was presented by the joint initiative of the Dhaka University Music Department and Dance Department.
