Dhaka Bureau: As a result of a severe heat wave, a cyclone called ‘Mokha’ is going to form in the southeast Bay of Bengal. It may hit Bangladesh very strongly.

Mostafa Kamal Palash, a PhD researcher in meteorology and climate at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, analyzed two weather forecast models and said in a status on Facebook that Cyclone ‘Mokha’ will be very strong and is likely to hit the Bangladesh coast.

This PhD researcher on meteorology and climate wrote, Today (May 8), the weather forecast model of the European Union is indicating that a possible cyclone ‘Mokha’ may hit Bangladesh after 12 p.m. on May 14 directly over Khulna and Barisal divisions. On the other hand, according to the American weather forecast model, Cyclone ‘Mokha’ is likely to make landfall directly over Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar districts after 6 a.m. on May 14.

He also wrote that the closer to the day Cyclone Ampan (which hit West Bengal, India, on May 20, 2020, with winds of 175 km/h) made landfall, the more accurate the path indicated by the EU weather forecast model proved to be.

He wrote, “Both the models are indicating the possibility of Cyclone ‘Mokha’ hitting the Bangladesh coast as a very strong cyclone.” But he did not want to reveal how strong it would be.
