Minni, who has been sentenced to death, has again sought bail in the High Court

Dhaka Bureau: Ayesha Siddika Minni, who was sentenced to death in Barguna’s Rifat Sharif murder case, has again applied for bail in the High Court. On Monday (May 8), Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam’s High Court bench may hear the application.

Earlier, Ayesha Siddika Minni, who was sentenced to death in Barguna’s controversial Rifat Sharif murder case on October 16 last year, applied to the High Court seeking bail. Later, on January 11, this year, the High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hasan Arik and Justice Biswajit Debnath refused to hear the bail application. On January 19, last year, the accused Minni appealed for acquittal.

On September 30, 2020, the court sentenced six of the 10 adult accused, including Ayesha Siddika Minni, to death. Four other accused were acquitted. Besides, six accused were fined 50 thousand rupees. Barguna district and session judge courts Achaduzzaman announced the verdict.

As per rules, all the proceedings in the case were referred to the High Court on October 4 of the same year (death reference) to approve the death sentence of the accused.

On June 26, 2019, Rifat Sharif (25) was hacked to death in front of his wife in front of Barguna Government College in the presence of hundreds of people. Later, a video of Rifat being hacked to death went viral on Facebook.
