Chaithwai Marma, Khagrachari Correspondent: Dighinala Press Club held a human chain program in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachari hill district to demand the cancellation of Digital Security Act and the withdrawal of the case against 6 journalists including Fazle Elahi, editor of daily Chittagong Hill Tracts and Pahar24.com. A human chain has been formed demanding the withdrawal of false cases filed under the Digital Security Act. Today Wednesday (October 26) at 11 am in front of Shaheed Minar of Dighinala Upazila Parishad Complex, a human chain was organized by Dighinala Press Club.
Journalists working in the upazila, student societies, social organizations and individuals from Susil society participated in it. People from different classes and professions participated in the human chain program expressing solidarity.
Kaler Kanth Dighinala Upazila Representative Md Zakir Hossain gave a welcome address to the human band under the chairmanship of Dighinala Press Club President Jahangir Alam Raju.
ATN Bangla and Kaler Kanth Khagrachari district representative Abu-Dawood spoke in this, Akter newspaper Dighinala representative Md. Akter Hossain. Also, the Dighinala Muktijoddha Children Sangsad Command of freedom party expressed solidarity in the human chain and participated in the human chain.
The speakers in the human chain said that they called for the cancellation of the Digital Security Act and the withdrawal of the cases filed under the Digital Security Act against 6 journalists of the country.
Earlier on Tuesday evening, journalist Fazle Elahi was arrested by the Kotwali police station under the Digital Security Act. Nazneen Anwar Nipun, daughter of District Women’s Awami League president and former Member of Parliament from reserved women’s seat Feroza Begum Chinu, is the plaintiff in this case filed in Chittagong’s Cyber Tribunal Court. In 2021, the case was filed against him under the Digital Security Act in the Chittagong Cyber Tribunal Court.
It is mentioned that on September 14th in Chittagong Cyber Tribunal Court, Nazneen Anwar, daughter of Rangamati District Women’s Awami League president, Firoza Begum Chinu, filed a case against 6 journalists under the Digital Security Act (DSA). Fazle Elahi, editor of Rangamati Daily Chittagong and Pahar 24.com, Anirban Shahriar, journalist of Rangamati Independent Television, Saiful Hasan, Rangamati correspondent of Jagonnews.com, Bayezid Ahmed, Special Correspondent of Deep TV, Didarul Alam, Khagrachhari correspondent of Now TV, and Banik Barta’s Rangamati correspondent Qar Roni are named in the case. Mentioning anonymity, many more have been kept as unidentified accused.
