Sitakunda Correspondent: The Bangladesh Human Rights Commission President of Sitakunda Upazila, Abu Bakkar Chowdhury, was detained by the police without a warrant.
It is said that he is being detained around 1 o’clock on Monday (May 1). When asked on the phone at 01320107501 about the case in which human rights activist Abu Bakkar Chowdhury has been arrested, the Duty Officer of Sitakunda Police Station, Sunidisht, could not provide any information. He asked to wait a little.
Abu Bakkar Chowdhury has been serving as the President of the Bangladesh Human Rights Commission, Sitakunda Upazila Branch, for a long time. A circle is said to be conspiring against him because he has protested against injustice at various times.
When Abu Bakkar Chowdhury’s wife, Rahima Begum, was contacted about this matter, she said that SI Mukib detained my husband without any warrant. When asked for a copy of the warrant, he could not show any. When asked in which case he was arrested, he refused to say.
He also said that a few days ago, neighboring former member Abul Munsoor burned the trees of human rights leader Abu Bakkar Chowdhury’s hill garden. Abu Bakkar filed a complaint against Mansoor at Sitakunda police station. But the police left the complaint uninvestigated. But tonight, Abu Bakkar Chowdhury was arrested without a warrant.
Former local member Mansoor is said to have a land dispute with Abu Bakr, the current owner of the rubber company Darwaen. Abu Bakkar Chowdhury complained to the police station 10–15 days ago when the trees in Abu Bakkar Chowdhury’s garden were burned. It is believed that Abu Bakkar was detained based on the complaint of a former member, Mansoor, without investigating Abu Bakkar Chowdhury’s complaint.
