Sukanth Bikash Dhar: Pankaj Chakraborty committed suicide fearing that a video of an intimate moment would go viral during a feud between two families over estranged love and owed money. Parakia addict Jonaki Dhar and her husband Sagar Dhar are in jail in a case of abetment to suicide. The parents of both the families have suffered the consequences of their actions, but the six children in their family are now helpless and mentally disturbed. In this incident, Pankaj’s children became fatherless and his wife became a widow. Pankaj’s children and wife have experienced emotional and financial uncertainty due to this. Meanwhile, Jonaki’s children are mentally broken as their parents are in prison. The incident took place in Ward No. 1 Dakshin Rampur (Vanik Para) area of Satkania Municipality. Last (Saturday) noon went to the spot to know the condition of both the families and talked to the family members and local residents.
In this regard, Pankaj Chakraborty’s eldest daughter Pushpita Chakraborty, a seventh grader, said, “Before the relationship with Jonakis, my father used to look at me and laugh when he entered the house. I laughed too. Father and daughter had a sweet relationship. When Baba starts coming to their (Jonaki’s) house, there is a change in him (Father). Dad doesn’t talk to me like before. After entering the house, he ate his own rice and went to sleep. He got up again in the morning and went to the store.
Tusti also said, one day when father came home from Jonaki’s house after drinking alcohol, I asked him, father, you are coming and going like this, have you ever asked me what I will become when I grow up? What is my wish and what do I want to be or how is the education going? Then the father says in a drunken state, you will grow up to be a man. The house is all for you. I don’t have a son. You three girls will enjoy everything. Then I told my father, I will be a teacher. Then the father laughs a little and says, what if. Can you be a teacher in this study? Then father advised to study well. This is my longest talk with Dad in a few years.
Tusti also said that on the day of the incident, the father went to Jonaki’s house and drank alcohol. After about half an hour my mother also goes to their room. There was a big fight between them. At that time, when my mother told Sagar about my father’s relationship with Jonaki, Sagar kicked Jonaki twice. Father could not bear this. At one point father comes home. Then Sagar shouted and said to his father – ‘What is the use of closing the doors of so many houses? You cannot die by hanging. Later, when Sagar left, father said to me, ‘Mary, please forgive me. Ask my family to forgive me. Saying this, when father wanted to go up to the second floor of the house, I held his genji and tugged a lot, but it didn’t work.
Tusti also said that father did not think about our three children. Mother didn’t even think about how it would go. Our athai floated away in the ocean. How do we go, who will see us? We became orphans.
At this time, the people of the neighborhood standing there silently shed tears.
In this regard, Pankaj’s wife Pompi Chakraborty said, about two years ago, my husband loaned Sagar three and a half lakh rupees to go abroad. Since then my husband came to their house almost at night after coming from the shop and my husband had a bad relationship with Jonaki. Later it goes deeper. Every now and then Jonaki would call Pankaj. My husband used to beat me if I talked about it.
Pompi Chakraborty also said, Jonaki and her husband Sagar are the main cause of my husband’s death. They plan to force him to die in order to avoid paying the debt. I want justice for the murder of my husband.
Palash Chakraborty, elder brother of Pankaj, said that we together with the councilors of the area talked about settling the matter, but the brother did not listen. Coming to Sagar’s house, on the day of the incident, Sagar’s wife Jonaki says, “I will take Pankaj as my son-in-law by pen and paper.” I will eat anything of Pankaj, I will eat Pankaj too.
Palash Chakraborty also said in a tearful voice, “My brother died.” Now who will see his small children? We tried a lot to save our brother. But they did not give time. If this continues, how many mothers will be left empty-handed, wives will be widows and children will be orphans. I am appealing to the administration for a fair trial.
On the other hand, Sagar Dhar and Jonaki Dhar’s eldest daughter, Aishi Dhar, a tenth grader, and Pua Tari Dhar, a seventh grader, said, “Our parents have been taken away by the police.” How do we go? Pankaj Chakraborty hanged himself. What is the fault of my parents here? They are now in prison, who will feed us now and how to study? We are now seeing darkness in our eyes.
Palash Dhar, a resident of Rampur Banik Para, said that on the one hand, the father died. On the other hand, parents are in jail. What will their children and wives do now?
He also said, will the children carry the burden of their misdeeds for the rest of their lives? To get rid of this situation, it is important for the people of the society to be aware.
It is to be noted that gold trader Pankaj Chakraborty committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Ward No. 1 Dakshin Rampur (Merchant District) of Satkania Municipality last Wednesday (12 April). Pankaj’s elder brother Palash Chakraborty filed a case against Jonaki Dhar and her husband Sagar Dhar for abetment of suicide on Thursday morning after the incident.
