Dinajpur Correspondent: In the current rabi season, a bumper crop of corn has been produced in Dinajpur. The cutting has started. Farmers are happy as the maize yield is good.According to the Dinajpur Directorate of Agriculture, corn has been cultivated on 71 thousand hectares of land this season.
Visiting different corn fields in the district, it can be seen that the farmers have started breaking the corn from the trees. 10,000 to 12,000 taka per bigha were spent from the beginning of corn planting to harvesting. And the yield per bigha has been 45 to 50 maunds. Corn is being sold at 800 rupees per pound. In this case, the profit is about 30 thousand taka per bigha.
Rabiul Islam, a farmer from Usmanpur village in Ghoraghat upazila, told the media, I have three bighas of land here. There is no crop on this land. So I cultivated corn. The yield has been very good. I hope the price will be good.
Nazmul Islam, the farmer of Mangla village in Hakimpur upazila, said that every year he cultivates maize on one bigha of land. As the market price is good, this time I cultivated maize on two and a half bighas of land. Selling for 800 rupees.
Hakimpur Upazila Agricultural Officer Dr. Mumtaz Sultana said the target of maize cultivation in Hili this time was 315 hectares. It has already been achieved. Potato farmers have also taken potatoes from the fields and cultivated corn. We have officially distributed 2 kg of hybrid maize seeds and 30 kg of fertilizer to 250 maize farmers for free. Corn harvesting has started. Hopefully, corn cultivation will increase in the future.
Deputy Director of the Dinajpur District Agriculture Department, Nuruzzaman, told the media that 71,000 hectares of land have been cultivated in the current rabi season. Compared to last year, the yield of maize in the district is better this year.
