Dhaka Bureau: The government has increased the prices of different types of fertilizers, including urea and TSP, by Tk 5 per kg at the dealer and farmer level. Due to the increase in the price of fertilizer on the international market, it was decided to increase the price on the domestic market as well.
This information was provided in a notification signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Hossain Ahmed, on Monday. It has been informed in this notification that the increase in the price of fertilizer will be effective from the date of the order’s issue.
In the context of the ongoing global economic situation, due to the increase in the price of fertilizers on the international market, it has been decided to re-fix the price of fertilizers with a view to keeping imports at a rational level and ensuring their optimal use, the notification said.
Although, on April 3, the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Abdur Razzak, said that the price of fertilizers will not increase in the country in the coming years as it has in the past,
He said, ‘We will not allow any crisis in fertilizer to continue food production under any circumstances. So that the farmers do not have to suffer with fertilizers (it will be seen), Because farmers will suffer without fertilizer, our production will decrease.
About the quantity of fertilizer stock, the agriculture minister said, ‘4 lakh tons of urea fertilizer are stocked. Apart from this, there are 2 lakh tons of TSP fertilizer, 2.5 lakh tons of DAP fertilizer, and 2.2 lakh tons of MOP fertilizer. Compared to last year, the quantity of all fertilizers is slightly lower.
