Professor Yunus on the UN Advisory Council

The Crime Desk: Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as a member of the UN’s ‘Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste’ by Secretary General Antonio Guterres. On March 30, the first International Zero-Waste Day, the UN Secretary General announced the formation of the board. According to a press release sent yesterday from the Yunus Center in Dhaka, Professor Yunus has been appointed in accordance with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on December 22, 2022, on zero waste or zero waste.” In a letter written to Professor Yunus after the appointment, the UN Secretary General said, “I believe that your knowledge, experience, and skills will play a special role in accelerating the activities of the United Nations on ‘zero-waste’. He also said, ‘Zero-waste’ in the context of sustainable development.” I hope that this advisory board will play an important role in taking these activities forward.

In addition to Professor Muhammad Yunus, the 13-member board also includes Turkey’s first lady, Mrs. Emine Erdogan (chairman of the board), president of the International Solid Waste Association, Mr. Carlos Silva Filho, Ms. Laura Reyes, executive director of Economia Circular, Ms. Lara Van Druten, chief executive officer of The Waste Transformers, and Salim Ali, professor of energy and the environment at the University of Delaware, United States of America, and Under Secretary General in Charge of the Policy Executive Office of the United Nations, Mr. Guy Ryder et al. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is the convener of this board.

Note that Professor Yunus has been working for a long time to achieve zero carbon emissions, zero poverty, and zero unemployment.
