Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina raised questions about the democratic status of the United States and said, Does their definition of democracy change when they cross the Atlantic? He said America practices democracy up to the Atlantic. When it passes, their very definition of democracy changes. He made this comment in the speech delivered at the Golden Jubilee Special Session of the Jatiya Sangsad on Monday.
The prime minister said, America talks so much about democracy. What is the state of democracy in their country? Three members of Congress were fired in a US state for speaking out on gun control. Every day in America, people are walking into schools with weapons, walking into clubs. In this way, many innocent people, including children, are being killed there. The crime of those three congressmen was that they talked about gun control.
Stating that the United States has given shelter to Bangabandhu’s killers, Bangabandhukanya said that the murderer Rashed has taken refuge in America. We have written appeals to all the presidents who have come. I told them: They are child killers, convicted criminals, but they are not returning it.
Sheikh Hasina said that, excluding democracy, they want to bring such a government into this country; if they are brought in, democracy will not exist. Some intellectuals have joined them.
