Dhaka Bureau: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has given good news to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka. He said, “Under BRTC, 100 electric cars will come to Dhaka in October or November.”
He gave this information in a preparatory meeting aimed at making road travel safe and smooth for passengers on the occasion of Eid at the conference room of the BRTA’s head office in Banani on Sunday (March 9).
During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bangladesh in June 2015, a $200 million accord was signed to introduce electric vehicles, known as the Second Line of Credit (LoC).
It is reported that under this agreement, 300 electric double-decker AC buses are being procured for BRTC. Its first shipment of 100 buses is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka in October.
Incidentally, the government is working on formulating an electric vehicle policy to reduce carbon emissions by 2030.
