On the orders of Babul, Mucha and his companions shot and stabbed Mitu to death on the road.
Seven years after the murder of Mahmuda Khanam Mitu of Chittagong, which was discussed all over the country, the deceased’s father, former police officer Mosharraf Hossain, gave his testimony about Babul Akhtar and other accused. Through his testimony, the trial of seven accused, including former police superintendent Babul Akhtar, began in the Mitu murder.
On Sunday (April 9), Musharraf testified in the court of Chittagong Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Jasim Uddin. In his testimony of about two hours, he presented various facts about Babul’s involvement in Mitu’s murder.
However, before the testimony, Babul Akhter’s lawyer said that the writ against the complaint is pending hearing in the High Court. So he requested to testify after Eid. The state opposes it. After hearing both sides for about 45 minutes, the court ordered that they begin taking evidence. The testimony started around 1 p.m. and lasted until 3:30 p.m.
On March 13, the court framed charges against seven accused, including Babul Akhtar, and ordered the trial to begin. On September 13, 2022, the PBI filed a charge sheet against seven accused in court. Chittagong Metropolitan PP Abdur Rashid was speaking on behalf of the state. Lawyer Golam Mawla Murad testified on behalf of Babul Akhter.
PP Abdur Rashid said Mosharraf Hossain has revealed many facts about the involvement of Babul Akhter in the murder of his wife Mitu. His testimony did not end yesterday. He will present the rest of the statement at the next hearing.
Babul’s lawyer, Murad, said the witness also presented the same story in court as Babul’s relationship with a foreign woman was presented in the PBI chargesheet. His testimony was not over. He will be cross-examined after the testimony.
After Mitu’s murder in 2016, her husband, former SP Babul Akhtar, filed a murder case at the city’s Panchlaish police station, pointing fingers at the militants. Later, after various dramas, the PBI said that the plaintiff was involved in the murder. After that, Babul was arrested by the PBI. Babul Akhter is now the main accused in this case.
The other accused in the case are Motaleb Mia alias Wasim, Anwar Hossain, Ehteshamul Haque Bhola, Shahjahan Mia, Kamrul Islam, Shikder Mucha, and Khairul Islam. On the occasion of taking evidence, five accused, including the imprisoned Babul, were brought to court. Two other accused, Kalu, are absconding, and Mucha is missing. Accused Bhola, who is on bail, also appeared in court.
On June 5, 2016, Mitu was publicly shot and hacked to death while going to drop her son off in the school bus at the GEC intersection in Chittagong city. SP Babul was in Chittagong Metropolitan Police a few days ago. The murder took place in Chittagong immediately after he was transferred to join the workplace in Dhaka. After the murder, Mitu’s family was on Babul’s side, but in 2017, Musharraf expressed suspicion of Babul’s involvement.
