Dhaka Bureau: People of the third gender have given Tk. They said that instead of shopping for Eid ul-Fitr, they gave that money as a donation to help the affected traders.
On Sunday (April 9) at noon, the third gender community provided assistance to the affected traders at the burnt market place in Bangabazar. This is the first time that the third-gender community is being assisted in this way.
Shop owners association and affected traders say that today they have received financial assistance from various quarters. The most gratifying thing is that people of the third gender have come forward with their help by giving 20 lakh taka.
Bangladesh Hijra Development Organization President Kashmir Dipali said, “For the last 30 to 40 years, we have been taking money from businessmen. Today, in their moment of danger, we have stood by the business brothers instead of doing Eid shopping. We have collected 20 lakh rupees from all over the country. I have come to pay that money to them today. If they live, we live too.
Guru Ma Rakhi Sheikh, the guru of members of the third sex, said, “We collected money from people and accumulated this money.” Now we will give it to humanity. All of this money will be deposited in the relief fund for the affected traders. From there, this money will reach the affected traders.
During the handing over of this grant, the guru mothers of members of the third gender came from nearby areas, including Dhaka. About one hundred members of the third gender were present.
Meanwhile, Sardarni Aliya, a member of the third gender in the capital’s Uttara area, saved two lakh taka for Hajj. Seeing the plight of the affected businessmen of Bangabandhu, he has given two lakh taka of support without performing Hajj this time.
