Faridpur Representative: Awami League nominated candidate Shahdab Akbar Labu Chowdhury has been elected Member of Parliament in the by-election of Faridpur-2 seat by a huge margin of votes.
On Saturday (November 5) at 8 o’clock at night, senior election officer of Faridpur district. Habibur Rahman confirmed this. He said that Shahdab Akbar Chowdhury Labu got 68 thousand 812 votes with boat symbol in the election. His closest rival is Advocate Zainul Abedin Bakul Mia, candidate of the Bangladesh Khilafat Movement nominated banyan symbol, who got 14 thousand 878 votes. Shahdab Akbar Chowdhury Labu won by getting more than 53 thousand 934 votes.
Faridpur-2 Constituency consists of Saltha, Nagarkanda Upazila and Krishnapur Union of Sadarpur. Polling in the seat was held from 8 am to 4 pm without a break. Faridpur Election Office said that 83 thousand 690 votes were cast out of 3 lakh 18 thousand 585 voters.
Khulna Regional Election Officer and Faridpur-2 Constituency Returning Officer Md. Humayun Kabir said that the election was free and fair. To make the election free, fair and impartial, 13 magistrates including three judicial magistrates have performed their duties along with Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Ansar.
Faridpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Atul Sarkar said that polling was conducted in a normal manner without any untoward incident. People are happy to vote in EVMs.
This parliamentary seat was declared vacant on September 11 due to the death of Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury. The Election Commission (EC) announced the schedule on September 26.
