Madaripur Correspondent: In Madaripur, 15 people, including three women, were allegedly hacked and injured for stopping drug consumption.The incident took place in the Thantali area of Madaripur town on Friday (April 7) evening. Later, the locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Madaripur Sadar Hospital.
The injured are: Shahajuddin (27) son of Mosharraf Hossain, Javed Howlader (22) son of Rafiq Howlader, Mahbub (35) son of Alamgir Howlader, Sifat (30) son of Kazi Shipon, Riyad Khan (28) son of Akhtar Khan, Roni Khan (23), Jahangir Khan’s son Nadia (18), Akhtar Khan’s wife Reba Khan (50), Rahim Hos at least 15 people.
According to the victim and the hospital sources, some mischievous boys were taking drugs while sitting next to a house in Ward No. 7 of Thantali. A woman named Saleha Begum forbade them to consume drugs on fasting days. The scoundrels got angry and threatened to take a look at him. After leaving there for some time, the natives attacked the house with weapons and sticks. Here, 20–30 youth ambushed them. At least 15 people were injured by the sharp weapons of the attackers. However, the identity of the attackers could not be confirmed.
The injured said, “Terrorists attacked us for stopping drug consumption; we want justice.”
The doctor on duty at Madaripur Sadar Hospital, Bazlur Rahman, said that many people came to the hospital in the evening with injuries to different parts of the body and were given first aid.
Madaripur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Manwar Hossain Chowdhury said that the police visited the scene after receiving the information and went to the hospital and spoke to the injured. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken after an investigation, and those involved in the incident will be arrested.
