Habiganj Correspondent: A housewife was flogged and pelted with stones during a Shalis meeting in Chunarughat, Habiganj. Police have arrested four people in this incident.
The arrested are Hafez Md. of Alinagar village of the upazila. Nurul Islam (35), Bayezid Hossain (70) of Barazum village, Atiq Ulla (50), and Md. Taib Ali (68).
Chunarughat Police Station OC Md. Rashedul Haque said that they were arrested on Friday (April 7) night. According to the police, in the village of Chunarughat, an arbitration was organized against the wife of an expatriate for extramarital affairs. According to the decision of the arbitration meeting, the woman was flogged on the night of April 4 in the courtyard of a house in that village.
Later, the woman filed a case at the Chunarughat police station, naming 17 people and accusing some unknown others. The police arrested the four accused in a raid.
In the case, the woman complained, “She was given 82 lashes and 80 stones as punishment for creating drama with extramarital affairs.”
OC Md. Rashedul Haque said that evidence of flogging was found on the woman’s body. But whether stones were thrown or how many lashes were given in total, it is not known. Four people have been arrested in this incident; the operation is on to arrest the rest.
