Dhaka Bureau: The High Court has ordered the formation of a high-powered investigation committee into the death of Sultana Jasmine in Naogaon RAB custody. An inquiry committee headed by Naogaon District Judge or any other equivalent judge and Chief Judicial Magistrate has been ordered to be formed in this committee. At the same time, the court ordered to remove the RAB members involved in the incident while investigating.
The High Court bench, comprising Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Mahbub ul Islam, gave this order after hearing an application in this regard on Wednesday (April 5).
Earlier today, Attorney General AM Amin Uddin held a hearing for the state in court. Manoj Kumar Bhowmick appeared for the victim. Later, Bariya Manoj Kumar and the Attorney General filed separate briefs with the court.
The Attorney General said that the court has given a ruling in this case. In the ruling, the court said whether RAB’s abduction of Jasmine was legally valid. During the investigation, the accused ordered the removal of the RAB members.
Sultana Jasmine (45) was working as an assistant in the Chandipur Union Land Office of Naogaon Sadar Upazila. RAB arrested Jasmine from Naogaon on March 22 on the complaint of Enamul Haque, Joint Secretary working in Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office.
RAB took Jasmin to Naogaon Sadar Hospital in a sick condition four hours after her arrest. From there, he was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. He died there on Friday.
After Jasmin’s death in RAB custody, a lot of discussion started about it. The family alleges that he died due to torture by the RAB.
Denying the allegations, RAB says that 45-year-old Sultana Jasmine was arrested on charges of fraud. He fell ill after his arrest. He was immediately admitted to the hospital. He died while undergoing treatment.
