Lalmonirhat Correspondent: A Bangladeshi named Rabiul Islam (50) was killed in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat. A young man named Shahidul (30) was shot at this time.
The incident took place near the main pillar of Shamsernagar at the border of the upazila at midnight on Sunday (April 2). The deceased is a Chenumiya boy of Burimari Kalabagan area, Rabiul Upazila.
The gunned-down Shahidul is the son of Hedul Mia of Burimari Kalabagan upazila. He is secretly undergoing treatment in a hospital.
It is known that on Saturday night, four to five Bangladeshis entered the Medical Bridge area inside India. BSF personnel fired two rounds on them. Rabiul Islam died, and Shahidul was shot in the left leg.
61 BGB Teesta-2 battalion captain Lt. Colonel AM Mahbubul Alam Khan said one person was killed in BSF firing during a smuggling operation near the barbed wire fence of the border. Another was injured. We are investigating the matter. More details on this will be given later.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patgram Police Station Omar Farooq said that the body of the person was recovered from the border and brought to the Patgram Police Station. It will be sent to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
