Rangamati representative: On Saturday (November 5), Rangamati district administration and the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate jointly organized a day-long seminar on consumer rights protection in the conference room of the District Commissioner in collaboration with international non-governmental development organization GAIN. The director general of the department Mr. A. was present as the chief guest in the event. H. M. Safikuzzaman, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman.
GAIN’s representative Mr. Ashek Mahfooz participated in the seminar along with additional district commissioner and all levels of district administration officials, head office of the directorate, Dhaka and Chittagong divisional offices and officials of Dhaka, Khagrachari and Rangamati district offices, safe food authority, agriculture officials and district level officials. Edible oil traders, salt traders, public representatives, CAB, Chamber of Commerce, press club representatives and various categories of business leaders were also present.
The program of the seminar started with the welcome speech of Mr. Manzoor Mohammad Shahriar, Director of the Directorate and the seminar ended with the speech of the Deputy Commissioner. The Director General of the Directorate presented various important issues of the Consumer Rights Protection Act in detail. He answered various questions from the participants.
The seminar requested salt traders to sell and supply iodized salt. Edible oil traders are urged to produce, supply and market bottled vitamin A-fortified edible oil instead of open oil. He also sought the cooperation of all concerned in keeping the prices of daily necessities stable. The seminar discussed in detail consumer issues.
The participants thanked the director general of the department for organizing a seminar in Rangamati district on important issues like consumer rights and the officials, business leaders and other stakeholders expressed their commitment to actively play their responsibilities to uphold consumer rights.
