Dhaka Bureau: The Election Commission (EC) has instructed the field officers to prepare for the 12th National Assembly elections. The EC gave this direction while attending the monthly coordination meeting held at the election building on Thursday, March 30. The EC Secretary gave this information to the journalists. The EC secretary said that today we had monthly coordination. I sat with all EC officials and regional election officers. The Election Commissioners wished to stay today, and they (the entire Commission, including Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal), did.
He said he has given instructions regarding the preparations for the 12th National Assembly elections so that we do not lag behind the roadmap announced by them. In this regard, they have given instructions according to the roadmap on all the issues from the top to the bottom of the election, from the purchase of goods to the establishment of polling stations, and we are lagging behind in some matters.
He also said that in the preparation of the election, we want to know, from the field level, where are the ballot boxes, how are they there, how will they verify them, and give us a report on these issues. These are effectively the internal workings of the EC.
The chief election commissioner and other election commissioners have already told the media that the twelfth parliamentary elections will be held from the last week of December this year to the first week of January next year.
For this purpose, the EC has started the work of delineating parliamentary seats, registering new parties, and amending laws. Each of these major tasks is at an intermediate level. Besides, other matters will be completed on the basis of the field-level report by the organization organizing the election. Besides, the election commission has already started the major task of election training.
