Another 40,000 families received the Prime Minister’s gift house

Dhaka Bureau: No one will be homeless in the Mujib year—39 thousand and 365 more families got their dream nest with land ownership through the Asryan project in continuation of the implementation of the promise of Mujib’s daughter, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Today, March 22, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over these houses from across the country through a video conference from Ganabhaban.

In the fourth phase, 211 upazilas in nine districts of the country are becoming completely landless and homeless through the transfer of these houses.

He directly interacted with the beneficiaries in three upazilas through video conference. The upazilas are Nayapara Shelter Project of Gazipur Union of Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur District, Nawagon Shelter Project of Nandigaon Union of Goainghat Upazila of Sylhet District, and Uttarpar Shelter Project of Banaripara Municipality of Banaripara Upazila of Barisal District. Chief Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Mia gave detailed information on this in a press conference at the Prime Minister’s office on Tuesday.

Tofazzal Hossain said that 2 lakh, 37 thousand, and 831 houses have been allocated for the purpose of rehabilitating landless and homeless families across the country from 2020 to March this year on the occasion of Mujib Barsho. As a result, the number of beneficiaries across the country is about 13 lakh. The Chief Secretary said that the two-room house is being transferred to the joint ownership of the husband and wife by deeding and deeding two percent of the land. They are getting full ownership of this land. But as per the terms, they cannot transfer or mortgage the land. If the house needs renovations in the future, they will do them as the owner.

He said that a total of 7 lakh, 71 thousand, and 301 families have been rehabilitated since 1997 under the Asylum Project, under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The number of beneficiaries in this program is 38 lakh, 56 thousand, or 505 (five people per family). Out of this, the Prime Minister’s Office Asylum Project has directly resettled 5 lakh 54 thousand 597 families (about 27 lakh 72 thousand 985 people). The remaining 2 lakh, 16 thousand, and 704 families have been rehabilitated under similar programs of the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

According to the updated data of the government on the occasion of Mujib year, the number of landless and homeless families is 259 thousand, including 237 children. Among them, 63 thousand 999 houses were handed over in the first phase on January 23, 2021; 53 thousand 330 houses in the second phase on June 20, 2021; 32 thousand 904 houses in the first phase of the third phase on April 26, 2022; and 26 thousand 229 houses in the second phase of the third phase on July 21, 2022. Today, 39 thousand 665 houses are being handed over. Houses are being handed over to 2 lakh, 15 thousand, 827 families out of the 2 lakh, 59 thousand, 237 families identified by this. Among the remaining 43 thousand 410 families, 22 thousand 10 families have been identified and allocated single houses with two percent land through the shelter project. By identifying the remaining 21 thousand 404 families and rehabilitating them, the Prime Minister’s promise that ‘no person in the country will remain landless and homeless’ will be implemented.
