Correspondent: Commodore (Retd) Zobair Ahmad, former DG Shipping and President of Chittagong Port Development and Research Council, has expressed deep concern and anxiety over the overall security system of Chittagong Port. He told the media that Chittagong Port is a KPI (very important facility). How is the container smuggled from there? From what I have seen in various media, I have seen that people from the security department of the port are also involved in this, which is very sad and very worrying.
Zobair Ahmad said that a container being smuggled from the port, people entering the container and going abroad by ship, and drugs being smuggled out of the container are not good signs in any way. Such incidents are a threat to our security and tarnish the image of our country in the outside world.
Zobair Ahmed is a former officer of the Bangladesh Navy’s intelligence department who also served as a member (engineer) of Chittagong Port. He also said that the Chittagong Port Authority should take responsibility for protecting the security of the port. There is no way to avoid responsibility. He said that the international ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security) regarding security should be fully implemented. As far as I understand and know, that software is probably useless. Because if it’s on, it’s very fast to check where any container is. It needs to be implemented very urgently. Secondly, to modernize and improve the security team and system that the port has in place, special security training and proper monitoring are required after some time. For this, it needs to be kept with the security department in the form of a book with the necessary instructions.
He said that the biggest thing is that promising, patriotic, and honest officers should be appointed for the development, security, and reputation of Bangladesh and the port.
This former official of the Navy and Chittagong Port said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very sincere in developing Chittagong Port as a more dynamic, modern, and international standard port. In that case, those who are associated with it should also be honest, dynamic, and sincere.
