Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Detective) Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid confirmed the matter. He said this is a planned incident. The robbers were planning to extort the money well in advance. On Thursday (March 9) around 7:00 am, a Dutch-Bangla Bank vehicle was robbed in the area adjacent to bridge number 11 in Uttara sector 16 of the capital. An armed gang surrounded the car and took away the money.
The vehicle was going from Dhaka to Savar EPZ to deposit money at the booth. According to the police, the bank claimed that there was 11 crore 25 lakh taka (in four trunks) in that car. Later, after receiving a call from Triple Nine, the police rushed to the scene. Apart from the police station, several agencies of the law enforcement agencies started investigating the robbery incident. Nine hours after the incident, the DB Police said that they recovered the Hiace car carrying the stolen money from Khilkhet in the capital.
Three trunks full of money were found in the car. The operation is on to rescue the fourth trunk. Dhaka Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner (Crime) Biplab Vijay Talukdar said that Tucker’s car was being followed by a black Honda. The black microbus stopped the vehicle carrying money from Dutch-Bangla Bank on its way from Uttara Metrorail Station No. 1 towards Turag.
Three persons first got down from the microbus and introduced themselves as DB policemen, dropped the people in the car of Money Plant, and ran away with the car full of money. After going some distance, they left the car and took the trunk full of money in their (the robbers’) used car. The robbers then quickly left.
