Sitakunda blast: death toll rises to 7

Own Correspondent: Pravesh Lal Sharma, who was under treatment in the ICU of Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) Hospital, died after being seriously injured in the explosion in Sitakunda, Chittagong.

He died around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday (March 5). Chamek Hospital Director Brigadier General Shamim Ahsan confirmed this.

The death of Seema Oxygen Plant operator Pravesh Lal Sharma in the explosion brought the death toll to seven. The other six are Shamsul Alam (50), son of Ismail Hossain of Bhatiari Jahanabad area of Sitakunda, and Abul Basar Mia of Bhatiari BMA Gate area. Farid (36), Ratan Lockret (45), son of Chiki Rongi Lakhret of Chhota Mangara area of Kamalakanda Upazila of Netrakona, Abdul Quader (50), son of the late Maqbul Ahmed of Alipur area of Maijdi police station of Noakhali, and Mohidul Haque of Char Lawrence area of Kamal Nagar police station of Lakshipur. Salah Uddin (35) and Salim Richil (38) of Mymensingh

The bodies of the remaining six people, except Pravesh Lash Sharma, have already been handed over to their families. After the autopsy, the administration handed over the dead bodies to the families from the Chittagong Medical College (CHMEC) hospital mortuary on Sunday evening.

An explosion occurred at Seema Oxygen Oxyco Ltd.’s plant in the Kadmarsul (Keshabpur) area of Sitakunda on Saturday afternoon.
