Dhaka Bureau: Director General (DG) of Fire Service and Civil Defense Brigadier General Md. Main Uddin said that the explosion in the commercial building in the Science Lab area of the capital was an accident. It is being investigated to see if it was caused by any other reason.
This was said by the Fire Service DG after the opening ceremony of the capital’s Pallabi Fire Station on Monday morning (March 6) in response to questions from journalists.
When asked whether there was any other reason, Main Uddin said, “I myself sought the help of the army to find out whether it was an accident or something else happened at the science lab.” The Army’s bomb disposal team also worked. They said that no sabotage or explosives were found there. No sign of explosion was found from these. The incident is still under investigation.
When asked why the chemical godown is not moving from Old Dhaka even after the big fire incident, the fire service DG said that after the government’s directive, neither the fire service nor the city corporation is giving any permission to set up a chemical godown or factory in Old Dhaka. Everything that is still happening is illegal. However, the relevant ministries and departments will be able to tell why there are still chemical godowns, factories, or sales in old Dhaka.
