Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Another fire broke out in Ukhiyar Balukhali (No. 11) Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar. Acre after acre of Rohingya houses are burning in the fierce flames. Nine units of the fire service are working to control the fire.
On Sunday (March 5), around 3:30 p.m., the fire incident took place at the Balukhali Rohingya Bazar Mara Gachtala camp. Palongkhali Union Parishad (UP) Chairman M. Gafur Uddin Chowdhury
The officer-in-charge (OC) of Ukhia police station, Sheikh Mohammad Ali, confirmed the truth of the information and said, “The police were sent to the spot after receiving information about the fire in the camp. They said that due to the wind, the flames are spreading rapidly. Residents are running for their lives. Police, the APBN, the fire brigade, and ordinary Rohingyas and locals are working to control the fire. However, the origin of the fire is not yet known. The extent of damage will be known once the fire is under control.
It is to be noted that even before this camp, numbers 9–10 of Balukhali also caught fire and thousands of Rohingya settlements were burnt to ashes. Hundreds of Rohingyas had to live an inhumane life under the open sky. Hundreds of houses have been burnt due to another fire, and countless Rohingya will be homeless today, said the locals.
