Dhaka Bureau: Today, Thursday, is National Voter’s Day. For the fifth time, the Election Commission (EC) has taken all preparations to celebrate the day with due dignity across the country. The theme of this year’s Voter’s Day is ‘I will vote according to the rules; I will vote for those who deserve it’. The final number of voters in the 2022 Electoral Roll Update will be released on National Voter’s Day. On the occasion of the day, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) along with other commissioners will inaugurate the Voter’s Day program through a colorful rally from the front square of the election building at 8:30 a.m. today.
On the occasion of Voter’s Day, Election Commissioner Ahsan Habib Khan said that the Election Commission is working hard to ensure a fearless election and a smooth environment. In the first year of their term, in all the elections that have been held so far, measures have been taken where there have been complaints of obstruction and irregularities. He said that so far, more than 500 elections have been held under the current EC, most of which were conducted using electronic voting machines. No reliable complaint has come in these polls, and no aggrieved person has approached the court. The election commissioner said that the EC’s call for all parties to come to the polls has always continued: “Suffrage is not a word of mouth; we will have all kinds of initiatives and maximum goodwill to make it meaningful.” We want all elections, including the 12th Parliament elections, to be free, fair, peaceful, and participatory.
On the occasion of this year’s Voter’s Day, a discussion meeting on the importance and significance of Voter’s Day will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Election Building Auditorium. The Chief Election Commissioner will attend the function as the chief guest, and the Election Commissioners will be special guests. Besides, an interesting cultural program will be organized at 6.15 p.m. National Election Medals will be awarded to three outstanding officers of the Election Commission for performing their duties with efficiency and merit. Besides, rallies and discussions will be organized in the field offices.
