The Crime Desk: The High Court has ordered the expulsion of five female students from the Islamic University (EB) for filming a video of a female student being beaten and physically tortured overnight.At the same time, the court ordered the withdrawal of the provost of the hall concerned.
The High Court bench of Justices JBM Hasan and Raziq Al Jalil passed the order on Wednesday (March 1).
The five students are EB Chhatra League vice president Sanjida Chowdhury Antara, Chhatra League worker Tabassum Islam of Finance and Banking Department, Israt Jahan Meem of the same academic year in Law Department, Halima Khatun Urmi of Fine Arts Department, and Moabiya of Finance and Banking Department. Except for Antara, all are students for the 2020-21 school year.
Based on the two reports filed in the High Court, the authorities have been directed to take action against the students involved, the administration, and others as per the rules and regulations of the university. The five students have been asked to stop all educational activities and stay off the campus pending the final decision of the university authorities in this regard.
The court said that the five suspended students will not be able to participate in any academic activities and will not be able to stay on the university campus.
Apart from this, the court has also ordered Phulpari Khatun, a student who was tortured, to be given residency in the prison of her choice within three days.
The court directed the SPs of Kushtia and Pabna and the university authorities to ensure all kinds of security for Phulpari Khatun. Furthermore, law enforcement has been directed to collect and submit to the court the mobile phone of Halima Akhter Urmi, a Fine Arts Department 2020-2021 session student who recorded the video of the abused student Phulpari during the incident.Witnesses to the incident have also been asked to ensure security. The Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of the University have been directed to report on this order by May 8.
The court told the writ petitioner that we would keep the matter under close monitoring. You should also take care of this. Inform the court if any problem arises. Then we will issue the necessary orders.
