Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the insurance sector has to play a leading role in making Bangladesh a prosperous and developed country. To gain customers’ trust, insurance companies should improve the quality of their services and pay out insurance money quickly.
He said this at the opening ceremony of National Insurance Day at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Wednesday (March 1).
The prime minister said that the Awami League government has modernized the insurance law. This sector is being digitized. Insurance protects people and helps to improve the quality of life. Apart from this, steps are being taken to motivate people for this, including formulating policies.
Referring to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s career in the insurance company, the Prime Minister said, “My father took a job in the insurance company for his livelihood.” The owner of that company was my father’s friend. Basically he gave him (Bangabandhu) the responsibility.but it didn’t last long. because the father was arrested in 1962.
Bangabandhu formulated six points while sitting in that insurance company and said that the demands were written by Mohammad Hanif. Later, a learned person translated it. on the basis of which the people’s coup in 1969, an absolute victory in the elections in 1970, and independence in 1971 were achieved. Therefore, insurance remains linked to the country’s history of independence.
On March 1, 1960, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman began working for the then-Alpha Insurance Company. Last year, the government upgraded the National Insurance Day from the “B” category to the “A” category in memory of Bangabandhu.
